About Us
The Somali Childhood Diabetes Organisation (SCDO) is the first and only Somali NGO
dedicated exclusively to children with diabetes. Based in Mogadishu, SCDO operates with a small
but committed medical team and an office that serves as both our clinic and coordination hub.
Our Capacity to Deliver
- Medical Team: One doctor and three nurses trained and ready to provide direct care.
- Clinic Base: An office/clinic in Mogadishu with space for patient follow-up.
- Patient Identification: Ongoing registration of children through outreach and referrals.
- Accountability: Safe insulin distribution, awareness, and transparent reporting.
We work in partnership with OASIS Hospital and Siman Hospital in Mogadishu,
who have agreed to support SCDO through the following:
- Medical assessments, testing, and confirmation of Type 1 Diabetes cases.
- Official medical reports and certificates for diagnosed children.
- Treatment plans, insulin regimens, and structured follow-up schedules.
- Proper insulin storage and glucose-monitoring supply management, including cold-chain support.
- Consultation services (fees may be waived for SCDO-referred patients).
- Training of SCDO nurses and volunteers in diabetes care, insulin use, DKA recognition, and emergency response.
- Participation in joint awareness activities organized by SCDO when feasible.
